WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Stevens said Wednesday he hopes to win votes for oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by putting it in the same bill as Hurricane Katrina relief money.
“It’s going to be awfully hard to vote against Katrina,” the Alaska Republican said.
Even if you are for drilling in ANWR (which, as you may suspect, I am not), WTF would you think this is a good idea? Alaska’s Senator-for-Life has been itching grab the state by the hips and pummel away until he gets his fill for so, so long.
Stevens will have better luck pummeling himself than getting this passed before the Holiday recess even though he has committed the 99 other senators to staying until he gets his way. Why is it that major politics attracts bullies? Hulk smash!
As Claire said recently, I am far too idealistic. I feel that people who achieve the national stage, as it were, should be more interested in helping those that voted (and didn’t) for them than helping themselves. But the reality rarely plays itself out that way.
Well, it’s taken me about an hour to write this post. Well, to post this post. I am less incensed but I think I will leave it the way it is. Stevens usually pisses me off when I read about him so I will just go with my blink.
