Making next year’s Human-Computer family reunion a lot less uncomfortable.

WTF… Which button do I click?

Skype error

The message reads: Skype installation is not complete. If you exit now, you can try again later by running the Skype installer. [Yes] [No]

There really is only one choice here: [OK]

Bah. Just a minor rant. I simply don’t understand the lack of thought that seems to exist in the design of warning, information, and error message. Actually, maybe the title of this post is a misnomer… What does that question mark in the talk bubble mean?

One of my pet peeves, too. That and message text with obvious grammatical errors.

I think the question mark means the developer was clueless.

  2. beth says:

The question mark means “We have no idea what’s wrong, figure it out your damn self.” At least, that’s been my experience.

  3. M.e. says:

The title of the message box is “Exit Installer”. In Mac OS X the title would appear in the body of the message field set in bold type and the confusing message under it. I think it would make more sense presented that way.

Giving you the option of leaving an installer open once it has finished installing is just plain weird—and very common.
